Hello! My name is Jess and I am thrilled to be joining the Independent K9 Team!
I am a certified Master Dog Trainer, having attended and graduated from the same school as Erin (The Tom Rose School in Missouri). I have spent the last several years training service dogs and their handlers, and have successfully placed over 50 dog and handler teams. During 2016 and 2017, I held certification from Assistance Dogs International.
With my personal dogs, I have trained for and competed in Agility, AKC Obedience, Protection sports, including Schutzhund and PSA, Tracking, Nosework, and more.
I have a special interest in canine nutrition and have spent years studying the best (and worst!) diets available for dogs. I will talk to anyone at any time in any place about dog food! I also enjoy learning about natural and holistic care for pets.
After one of my German Shepherd Dogs was injured during training, I began to learn about canine rehabilitation, fitness, and conditioning, utilizing FitPAWS equipment. I have since helped rehabilitate several working dogs and begun teaching how critical a dog's fitness and conditioning is to keeping him (or her) healthy, happy, and preventing injuries. All while having lots of fun!
When I'm not training or playing with dogs, I spend most of my time cooking, reading, and watching crime and medical drama TV shows. My German Shepherd Dog, Echo, keeps me very busy, and we especially like to hike and find fun places to play ball. I look forward to getting to know everyone!
